Senior celebrates family’s history of Black women farmers through award-winning artwork

Studio Art senior Shyanne Dickey recently won OSU’s Division of Student Affairs Celebrating Black Lives Art Contest with her piece, “Reigning Black Women Farmers.” Dickey, who hails from Tucson, Arizona, ventured outside her normal medium of oil paints to create the digital print. The collage of edited photos depicts six generations of women from Dickey’s family who have worked farmland in rural west Kansas for more than 150 years.

Art history alum shares experiences of staying in Italy amid COVID-19 outbreak

In November 2018, OSU art history graduate and Stanford Ph.D. candidate Lora Webb moved to Rome to study Byzantine art and manuscripts for two years. But when COVID-19 began to rapidly spread through the country in February and March of this year, Webb had to make a decision: stay put or come back to the U.S. She ultimately decided to remain in Italy.

Oklahoma State University’s College of Arts and Sciences honored 25 of its most successful alumni Sept. 27 during the 2019 CAS Distinguished Alumni & Hall of Fame Ceremony at the Wes Watkins Center for International Trade & Development. Ardoth Hassler and Dr. George Thompson were both inducted into the Hall of Fame, while Brent Butcher and Maddy Cunningham were named Rising Stars. There were also 21 Distinguished Alumni recipients.

SMART scholarship helps recent grad succeed

Leo Reges graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences at Oklahoma State University in May with a computer science degree and minors in math and German. The SMART scholarship he received led to a job at Tinker Air Force Base right after graduation.
